In a time where anxiety and stress in youth is high, youth sports are an excellent antidote. Exercise has been associated with better mental health, and organized sports offers more as exercise pairs social interaction with goals.
When children perform in sports, their brains release endorphins. Endorphins are natural chemicals that reduce the stress and anxiety. Beyond biology, sports provide a framework for routine that encourages kids to use discipline, self esteem and resilience. When a young athlete moves on from a tough loss, or learns to push through a tough practice, they’re developing mental toughness that carries over to other aspects of life. Team sports also help in building a sense of belongingness. Kids who might feel isolated otherwise often enjoy being part of a team. This relationship is important for mental wellness, providing encouragement and friendships that foster confidence.
There are obvious mental health benefits associated with youth sports. Whether it is a goal scorer or just watching games with friends, sports related attitude is deep and permanent with children.
